5 Self Care Tips While you Wait for Induction

The waiting time I’m referring to is the time between accepting induction and going into the appointment when they start the process. For some it’s just a short period, and induction happens straight away, but for others it’s days or even weeks.

That time can be emotional. It’s normal to question your decision, to feel frustrated with your body for not going into labour, or frustrated by a medial reason you need induction.

I want to encourage you to take some time for self care, to do something to help you feel more rested and prepared. Even though you may feel like your mind is full of induction thoughts, take some time to distract yourself and rest.

Self care ideas for the end of pregnancy:

  • Turn off your phone and go to a movie – those texts asking if you’ve had the baby yet, or had any twinges etc. can drive you up the wall. Give yourself a break, turn it off and take yourself to the cinema. Either by yourself, or with a friend or partner.
  • Get a massage / reflexology – these can have the benefit of helping increase your oxytocin, but also it’s a great way to switch off and be in the moment.
  • Listen to a hypnobirthing track – if you’ve been practising hypnobirthing get your tracks on for a bit, hypnobirthing tracks will help you process stresses and fears. (If you need an induction specific one you can download it from the Positive Induction Course)
  • Spend some time in nature, go for a gentle walk, stand barefoot in the grass, or if it’s summer, sit in the shade of a tree and drink lemonade, breathe in the fresh air and just be.
  • Have a day time bath – make it really special, light your favourite candle, use your favourite bubble bath, add some music or an audiobook. Just luxuriate in the peace and calm of it all.

Here’s a bonus one – if you’re struggling with your mindset, or you’re really terrified of what’s the come, get some support. Self care doesn’t have to be the usual things, dealing with your thoughts is an important type of self care. If you have a supportive hypnobirthing teacher, or midwife reach out to them.

If you’d like to book a call with me, to talk through your feelings, have some hypnotherapy or go over your birth plan you can do that here: https://sonamum.as.me/induction-onetoone (If there’s no times that suit send me an email jade@positiveinduction.com).
