Thanks to Lindsey for sharing her story here, her wee one arrived on the day she was supposed to be induced, before her induction appointment. I remember being really upset too, feeling like my plans had gone out of the window, if you’re feeling like this please get on touch, there are so many things you can do to feel more positive.
It was my 1st pregnancy and I was consultant led.. (I thought due to family medical history) at 35 weeks I set up my birthing plan with the lovely Emma Ashton at Royal Preston Hospital. I always wanted a natural, peaceful birth and enrolled to Hypnobirthing classes with my partner Garry at 28 weeks.
Once realising that I was consultant led due to my “high BMI” I knew that for me was no excuse to not get the birth I wanted, what I dreamt of.
At 37 weeks on Tuesday 20th March 2018 my waters broke and as I had not gone into natural labour I was asked to attend Preston Hospital for an induction (24hours after) – to the consultant’s dismay, I declined. I was told about the risks, however I had done my own research and I knew I was not high risk at all.
I agreed to go for daily monitoring to check the baby was ok (which she was) and continued to decline my induction. On my 3rd visit to hospital we negotiated a “cut off date” to book for an induction on Saturday 24th March 2018 (96 hours after waters broke).
I managed the gym ball, brisk walks, hot baths, massages and bump rubs with my oils.
On Saturday 24th March (induction day) I woke up with lower abdominal pains and in my back. I stayed at home for as long as possible until we made the decision to get checked out at the hospital, unaware of what the pain was.
I remember crying in the car to Garry so upset that I thought my birthing plan had gone out of the window as I was due to be induced. I was scared that if the induction did not work, I would be wired up on a drip on a delivery suite.
Arriving at Royal Preston Hospital late morning (induction was booked in at 12noon) I was told after examination, I was in fact 6cm and in active labour!
We both burst into tears and I remember walking to the Birth Centre, into our room, 6 hours later, and zero pain relief our beautiful daughter Olivia was hypnobirthed in the pool. 37 weeks +4 – healthy 7lbs 1.5oz
